Garden sleepers, also known as railway sleepers or railroad sleepers, are traditionally used for laying rail tracks. These large, rectangular, sawn pieces of timber are versatile for various landscaping and gardening projects, such as raised beds, lawn and border edging, steps, pathways, and retaining walls. Sleepers is available for delivery or can be collected in our King's Lynn store. Recently, railway sleepers have gained renewed popularity due to their versatility and strength, making them ideal for building planters and providing excellent edging as well as structural timber for retaining walls.

Reclaimed railway sleepers can last for several decades without treatment, but to nourish and protect the timber from decay, we recommend applying a wood preservative. To further preserve garden sleepers, treat them with exterior wood oil or decking oil, ideally twice a year in Spring and Autumn. This will help repel water and prevent water ingress, which is the main cause of wood rot and damage.
